Invites for icons!
May. 2nd, 2009 02:50 pmETA: Thank you for the icons! I'm donating the invites to
dw_codesharing now.
I've given away most of mine to comments on the first page of
dw_codesharing's wanted page, but I'm really aching for some more icons for this brand new journal theme I have. I managed to make one from a Creative Commons photo I found on Flickr, but I'd like more, so I'm going to offer up some invites in trade for new qilin themed icons!
You can modify/use any photographs/images you find that are permissible by their creator to use for this purpose, such as those licensed under the Creative Commons or other open license, as I'm a little uncomfortable using images that aren't really mine to use. Please link so I can double check, and you can feel free to do this before you spend the time doing anything in case it turns out to be unusable.
You can also draw one--people who actually take the time and effort to draw me icons will probably receive paid account time from me, because I think it would be nifty to have original icons and realize that they can take much more thought, time, and effort.
My one main condition is that I want them to be fairly recognizable at 100x100--that's where my original efforts usually fell short with other photographs I found; I couldn't get things small enough without making them unrecognizable or dull. Other than that, you have a lot of latitude. You can find vague descriptions of qilin on Wikipedia. They're a very varied mythological animal in description depending on time period or legend, so you have a lot of flexibility in interpretation (one horn or two; different body parts); however, I'll note that I'm more towards the Chinese mythological aspect. I'm amiable to words on the icon, as well, such as "qilin" or other words/themes associated with the mythologic creature.
Link to the icon in the comments, or if you really have no place at all to host it until I get it, make a comment so we can make arrangements to get it to me some other way.

I made these:
01
04
Let me know if you like any of them or if there's something you'd like to me add/change about them to get them the way you like. :)

They are very nice! Thank you again!

Date: 2009-05-06 01:20 am (UTC)I'm hoping you still want the icons and have a code to give out for them. (If you still want the icons but have no codes to give out, just use the icons anyway. Having been made, they might as well get some use!)
I'm also hoping this is the right beastie. Wikipedia said the qilin is also spelled "kirin", so I went and searched Flickr for that.

I'm sorry they're a bit plain; my icon-making skills are a touch rusty.
You can send the invite to sailoreagle@gmail.com if you like the icons :)
